The EASIEST Eat Clean meal you will ever make!

Now that it is zero degrees outside and it gets dark at 4:30pm, I'm in mega comfort food mode. Also, considering I am now a large woman who waddles, I need some good food that is good for me, too as I come to the end of this journey.

My freezer is packed with clean recipes that I've made over the last 3 months for when the baby comes. I don't want to dive into them yet, so when I was grocery shopping I was so thrilled to come across this:

All the veggies you need for a delicious, hearty soup- washed, cut, and ready to eat!

I was so excited I ripped into the package without taking a photo first. President's Choice has come out with two versions of this home-made soup: Potato Leek and Butternut Squash!

All that's in it is potatoes, leeks, onions, and carrots. All chopped for you. No preservatives. Nothing added.

Add 1 carton (900 ml) of whatever broth mix you'd like, bring to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Then blend.

I'm all about making time to cook clean, healthy meals- but who doesn't love when it's already done for you?? I literally only added the carton of broth and some fresh ground pepper, and this was delicious. Perfect for stormy, snowy nights or for a 3pm snack in your favourite mug!

Easy, peasy, clean, YUM. Now, if someone could kindly come up with a way to experience childbirth on my behalf, that would be great. And, um... soon would be amazing. Thanks.

Do you have an easy eat-clean recipe???

Son of a BITCH!

Pin It 4 days until my due date, and I am so ready for this baby. Here's why:

1. The house is completely decorated for Christmas.

2. I am completely done my Christmas shopping.

3. I have wrapped all of my Christmas gifts.

4. I am uncomfortable as $#@!.

I can't tell you the difference from a week ago until today- sleeping is different, walking is different, eating is different- women weren't kidding when they said the last month will seem longer than the 8+ months put together.

This is upsetting to me for multiple reasons- I've been so active throughout this pregnancy! I wore heels just last weekend! I have energy! I've been sleeping well! When did I start waddling?

Every day, I have been giving myself a walking goal. One day, it was to Shopper's to get a fashion magazine (bad idea: look at all of these beautiful clothes I can't wear!) The next day, it was to Bulk Barn to get cranberries. The next, it was to No Frills to get chicken broth. The next, Shopper's to get myself some brightening concealer and a shotgun.

Alright, the gun is not true. But I can't tell you how much I feel like a huge slug. When I look in the mirror and see the bags under my eyes, I have to remind myself that I don't even have a newborn yet. Hence the brightening concealer. I've been trying to remain active by pumping my tunes (read: listening to Drake and trying to lip sync to the swear words) and walking. Crawling babies and elderly men with canes pass me.

I've been having contractions for weeks now, but short, quick ones. Apparently, this little boy has the same sense of humour as his Momma. "Haha, gotcha, Mom!" He also really enjoys kicking me really, really hard- enough that I've been known to scream out "Son of a BITCH!"

Then, I realize the irony.

Yesterday, I got home from my walk and felt like my uterus was going to fall out. It took me about an hour to walk 2 km and I was feeling sorry for myself- I longed for the days when I could jump rope without wondering if my internal organs would wind up on the floor beneath me.

Overall, I am so excited to be a Mom. I have had an excellent pregnancy. But Holy God, I am so ready to not be pregnant anymore.

Son of a bitch, I just got kicked again.

Buying the "Target Outfit"

Pin It I'm not often sappy, but I do need you all to know that my husband is THE most thoughtful, loving, wonderful man on the planet. It is almost annoying, actually. If he's had a long day and I ask him to pick up a few (read: 15) things from the grocery store, he happily does it. If I wanted to spend a month of our summer vacation with my family in a one-bedroom apartment, he would be thrilled. He often knows what I need before I even do. He has made me feel like a supermodel throughout my pregnancy. He watches the Bachelor and Keeping Up With The Kardashians with me, and understands my excessive need to know everything about celebrities.

And let me remind you, he is a clean freak. He does laundry, cleans the kitchen, washes dishes, cleans the floors- all without being asked- on top of doing pretty much everything to the house on the outside (mowing the lawn, raking leaves, etc.).

This weekend I heard the vacuum cleaner going in the basement.

He was cleaning the ceiling.

No lie.

For my birthday a few weeks ago, he surprised me by booking a hotel downtown and taking me on a shopping spree at the Eaton Centre! He also booked reservations at 3 different restaurants (all within walking distance) for me to choose from.

In short, he is my hero. It was great to be with my hubby and get some exercise- all while getting to shop!

The idea for the shopping spree was for me to pick out whatever I wanted as my "target outfit" to look forward to after pregnancy. Carter knows I've been dying to shop but, of course, I haven't been able to as my waistline expands. Have you ever watched "The Last 10 Pounds Bootcamp"? First of all, you need to in order to look at Tommy Europe alone.

Yes please.
This Canadian-based show takes mostly women who are looking to lose those "last 10 pounds" that so many of us often bitch about. He takes the women shopping and buys an outfit at least one size smaller than they are. After a month of diet and exercise, they get into their target outfits and feel amazing!

I love this idea, though I understand it might be some women's worst nightmare. On the show, it keeps people accountable, but it is also a TON of pressure. When my husband took me shopping for the target outfit, I shrieked with joy because it is totally up my alley. The pressure to get into an outfit WORKS for me as I feel absolutely zero pressure from anyone around me when it comes to exercise and diet- I hold myself accountable and know my limits. Small rewards are so important when you have a goal- from a new magazine to a pack of gum to a great shirt- my suggestion is to keep it non-food related. The important thing is to know what will work for YOU.

The problem when shopping for a target outfit when you are 9 months pregnant and 30 pounds heavier, is that you can't envision what you will look like in the outfit, nor can you try anything on. If it's 5-10 pounds (or 5-10 inches) you'd like to lose, you can often try on the outfit and go from there. 30 pounds? Not so much.

There were SO many beautiful clothes I wanted to buy- I'm obsessed with patterned cropped pants paired with flowy, light tops. Zara had three pairs of pants that I was drooling over.

Now if only I could be 6 feet tall, too.
I really, really wanted to buy a pair of these pants, but I just could not justify spending the money (alright, my husband's money) on something that I just couldn't foresee looking good.

So instead, we bought jewels.

My new, beautiful bracelet!!! This goes really well with my staples- oversizes MK two-tone watch, and hair tie on my wrist. Never leave home without them.

I adore this necklace. It's the perfect mix of over the top glam and a lil' bit of cheesiness.

And chocolate.

Hell. Yes.
We went for an amazing dinner and crashed while watching a terrible Reese Witherspoon movie at the hotel. It was, hands down, the perfect birthday. I highly recommend that you all get your own Carter.

What a man.
Tell me what motivates you to keep up your diet and exercise routine when you hit your fitness goals- would a target outfit work for you? Small rewards? Be specific as I'd love to feature the suggestions in a future post!

Fashion Friday: Guess what this is?

Let's talk bags. Much like shoes, bags always fit. They never go out of style. They can make or break your outfit.

I received this gorgeous clutch purse as a gift, and I nearly died! It is the Cameo Clutch from Petunia, and everything about it is perfection. The colour, the print, the size- everything! It is just gorgeous!

Here's the best part... IT'S A DIAPER BAG!!! Petunia's story is to "bring style and sophistication to the world of modern parenting"- which, to me, means that while 97% of the time I'll be in sweats covered with barf, there may be a 3% chance that I'll be a modern, stylish Mom that has a cool diaper bag.

Also, I'll have a pain-free labour and get 8 hours of sleep every night.
The clutch comes complete with a change pad, breastfeeding cover, container for wipes, and space for diapers. It also has a little wallet inside for important things like hand sanitizer, lip gloss, money, and a mickey.

What are your go-to items for your purse? Diaper bag?

Clean Eating Magazine Giveaway!

Pin It First things first- it's my birthday! And to celebrate, I want to give YOU a present.

I know some of you are thinking, "Your sarcasm and six pack abs are gift enough for me!" "The gift of you turning 31 but looking 15 is what I want for my birthday!" And to that, my friends, I thank you. My abs have never looked better as I currently sit at 9+ months pregnant. My birthday present to you comes from my favourite peeps at the Eat Clean Diet.

November is Beat Stress month at the Eat Clean Diet team! Here are EIGHT healthy ways to beat stress and keep sickness at bay:

1. Participate in your favourite physical activity.
2. Go to the drug store and buy your favourite shade of lipstick. Put it on. Smile. Then write profanity on your mirror using the lipstick. Snicker at your hilarity.
3. Have a bubble bath (after someone else cleans your bathroom for you).
4. Cook some clean eats!
5. Dance to your favourite music. The more embarrassing, the better.
6. Stick pins in your voodoo doll.
7. Read your favourite magazine.
8. Share with your friends your favourite healthy living blog, Fit In Heels (suggested by fans).

Two of my favourite ways to beat stress include reading magazines (Books? Too many words in them) and cooking up some clean eats. And, because I am now a year older and thus wiser, I have figured out a way for you to enjoy both.

One of you will WIN a year's subscription to Clean Eating Magazine!!!

If you're a fan of Eat Clean, then you will DIE over Clean Eating Magazine. Well, hopefully not, but you get my point. Every month you'll get new, ridiculous, clean recipes to try! Here are some photos to drool over:

Hells yes.
Clean Eating Magazine came along after the success of Oxygen Magazine (your personal trainer) and the Eat Clean Diet (your nutritionist). It is jam packed with recipes!! Some of my favourites include their 5 Ingredient Recipes and What's For Dinner? Recipes. I discovered clean eating about 7 years ago, and it amazes me to continually see new and exciting recipes, especially perfect for the season.

One thing I really love about these recipes is that most of the time, you can cook once but eat twice (at least!) I love having leftovers. It makes it so easy to stay on track when your fridge is stocked with healthy eats!

Here's how to enter to win:

+1 Follow FiH on Google Friend Connect
+1 Follow FiH on Facebook and write your favourite way to #BeatStress on my wall (you can tag Clean Eating Magazine, too)!
+1 Follow FiH on Twitter and tweet @fit_in_heels, @cleaneatingmag and @eatcleandiet your favourite way to #BeatStress

In the meantime, please celebrate my birthday for me. This includes doing any of the following, all of which I can't do:
-Jumping up and down without peeing
-Enjoying a glass of wine... or two.
-Going for a run, doing HIIT, or Jumping Rope
-Tying your shoes without gasping for air or blowing out a rib

Good luck! Contest closes Sunday, November 18th.

My Baby Shower!

Pin It Warning: when you see these photos, you will automatically wish you had better girlfriends. My ladies hosted an absolutely fabulous celebration for me a few weeks ago! I still cannot get over how thoughtful, hilarious, and perfectly "me" the party was.

I know what you're thinking. A baby shower? Hilarious? Well my ladies do it with class, sass, and booze (for everyone else). Don't worry, though- there was an entirely different kind of "bar" that I enjoyed more than I want to admit.

That's right. A candy bar.
On top of the glorious candy bar, there were teeny tiny baby shoes spewed everywhere- plus some motherhood advice that I could very well have written myself.

How do you feel when someone throws you a party? I am THE most awkward woman alive when it comes to this. I usually ugly cry and then make weird shrieking noises when I see the little gestures all around. For example, when I came into the party, I was sweating profusely and tricked people into thinking that was my pregnancy glow.

Then, I saw this and my makeup went to sh*t.

The Rook is our little rookie :)
Other gestures?

Baby carriage deviled eggs. Ridiculous.
Decor and takeaway "Son"flowers!!!
Celebrity baby name trivia... My sister and I were so good at this, it was actually embarrassing.
My favourite cupcakes... including mint chocolate!
Alcoholic and Non-alcoholic punch... one guess as to which one was which.
Fake champagne for the Mom to Be. Soon, my pet. Soon.
I can't get over this day! It was perfection from all angles. I actually can't believe this was all for me and my lucky baby boy. Baby showers are usually boring as F, and had this been a Saturday night, it would have been a wild party.

The AMAZING women behind the party planning! I am so lucky... now pass me a cold one.
Some of my beautiful friends!

Moms and daughters... Height is sometimes genetic.

My baby daddy showed up, and I flirted with him.
This was before my sister called me fat. We have a good relationship.

These women have 6 month old children. Hot damn.

My friends are so supportive.
I can't thank these gorgeous women enough for making this day such a beautiful, memorable, and special day. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to baby proof my house and stock up on wine.
