I'm writing this post because yesterday, after Stroller HIIT, I was having coffee with some wonderfully smart, beautiful, hilarious Moms who all have a sense of humour, put health as a priority, and run their households like badass mofos.<br /><br />Speaking of bad asses, we started talking about our bodies.<br /><br />You read that right.<br /><br />And we started out pretty good. We talked about what a fit group of women we had. We talked about how strong we had become. How many push ups we just did. How our legs were sore already from squatting. How we threw down a 12km run in record time. How we pushed a human out of our vajayjays and lived to tell about it.<br /><br />Then we started talking about physical appearances. Some of us wanted to be leaner. Some wished they didn't have stretch marks or cellulite. Some wanted abs. And some girls wanted breast implants.<br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p8C-M4WU1M4/Ul9GUYoaC2I/AAAAAAAADzo/bsLdyVxQyVM/s1600/boobs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-p8C-M4WU1M4/Ul9GUYoaC2I/AAAAAAAADzo/bsLdyVxQyVM/s400/boobs.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Just us hanging out hitting the weights. No biggie.<br />Source: <a href="http://www.sisinshape.com/">Sisters in Shape</a></td></tr></tbody></table><span style="text-align: center;">I totally relate to this. Being a fitness and yoga instructor and Phys Ed teacher myself, I will tell you it is HARD to be in the fitness industry sometimes. I'm surrounded by people that have beautiful, tanned skin, muscles in places I didn't know existed, white veneers that could blind me, willpower the size of my appetite for chocolate, and more silicone than I know what to do with. Open any fitness magazine and you will see gorgeous women who are ripped from head to toe, with nice, perky boobs. And I'll admit it: I like it. I like to look at them. I like that they are strong AND sexy, but I also know that strong and sexy can be a female Crossfitter, or an Olympic heptathlete, or that chick down the street who goes for runs on the weekends. I do worry that women and girls will strive for an ideal that is literally impossible to do on their own- as it physically requires surgery.&nbsp;</span><br /><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>Let me reiterate. We want, like, zero fat on all other parts of our body, but we are supposed to have giant funbags for boobs? How is that normal, or fair? Fair would be if the extra love in my lovehandles were considered sexy. Or if the stretched skin on my stomach was considered a badge of honour. Or if men felt the same need to make, ahem, one of THEIR body parts bigger.&nbsp;<span style="text-align: center;"></span><br /><br />Are implants like like putting makeup on, getting eyelash extensions or fake nails? Is it like straightening your teeth? Is it a fair reward for working so hard and having low body fat? Is it a gift to women who want to feel more "womanly"? Do women like looking at that ideal, or would they prefer the real thing? I can't answer these questions. What I do know is that I've had braces, I've had my teeth whitened, I've had laser eye surgery, and I feel damn good when I have my makeup on and my hair did. That being said, I think it is sad that women of all shapes, sizes, and cups aren't celebrated in the fitness world.<br /><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>Two months ago, I was asked to contribute to&nbsp;<a href="http://www.gorgomag.com/">Gorgo Women's Fitness Magazine</a>- a dream come true.&nbsp;<a href="http://www.facebook.com/sistersinshape">Erica</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="http://www.facebook.com/busymomgetsfit">Val</a>, two women I believe in wholeheartedly,&nbsp;asked me to join them at a photo shoot. I would get photos done for the column I would be writing for them (Think Carrie Bradshaw, but fitness. Without the designer shoes. Or NYC apartment. Or millions of dollars. Or the size zero. Or smoking addiction.).<br /><br />And I was terrified. The shoot was less than three weeks away, and I literally got the email as I was getting ready for a wedding: eating Mini Eggs, and downing&nbsp;<strike>multiple</strike>&nbsp;a glass of champagne. I know the "fitness look"- jacked from head to toe, huge boobs- and it's not me. I have small boobs, wide hips, and I certainly enjoy my indulgences in life. Fitness is not universal- there are MANY ways to be fit- yet people want to idolize the girl who looks hot in a bikini, even if the girl in the full piece wetsuit can kick the crap out of her. I don't have a six pack, but I know my core is my strongest asset. I wouldn't wear micro shorts to save my life, but I know I can outrun a whole hell of a lot of people. I don't have Michelle Obama arms, but I can push up and push up and push up like a mofo. And I don't make excuses for myself, but I also just had a baby. It was, to say the least, terrifying.<br /><br />Most of the photos that were taken at the shoot were of the real models with sports bras and short shorts. And they looked amazing. But I was glad (read: scared shitless) to be given a chance to be "me"- a real woman with a pear shape who eats chocolate and drinks wine, and kicks ass in the gym. I even did a shoot with a workout I created. It was inspiring, empowering, and hopefully- the way of the future.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BBWbC7jCnBU/Ul9I_dLlH-I/AAAAAAAADz8/SCmxSuX6U4c/s1600/Screen+Shot+2013-09-11+at+7.26.01+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="207" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BBWbC7jCnBU/Ul9I_dLlH-I/AAAAAAAADz8/SCmxSuX6U4c/s320/Screen+Shot+2013-09-11+at+7.26.01+PM.png" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Source: <a href="http://www.gorgomag.com/">Gorgo</a></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-abroieQa62A/Ul70drebAvI/AAAAAAAADys/7JNWOMNSBXA/s1600/oct13+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-abroieQa62A/Ul70drebAvI/AAAAAAAADys/7JNWOMNSBXA/s320/oct13+008.JPG" width="157" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A few things: 1. My thighs touch when I'm not posing. 2. I don't have abs unless I flex.<br />3. My boobs are non-existent. 4. I AM FIT. <br />Holla! &nbsp;&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table>Personally, I am not for, nor against breast implants. One of the girls at coffee said something that really resonated with me: "Wouldn't it be great if we could celebrate the Moms who got their bodies back, but with saggy boobs and stretched out tummies? Now THAT shows hard work." I couldn't agree more.<br /><br />If I was self conscious about my boobs, or if my body resembled that of a Grecian goddess or a fitness model, then perhaps I would consider implants. I just feel like they would get in the way of hoisting my wine glass. That, and I just couldn't possibly handle getting more attention than I already do. I do have like, three whole fans, you know. <br /><br /><br /><b><i><span style="color: purple;">What do YOU think of breast implants in the fitness world?</span></i></b><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-67483852463818336352013-10-09T08:00:00.000-04:002013-10-09T08:39:48.180-04:00CLEAN Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Amazeballs If you know me, you know I have a major sweet tooth. I've tried everything: completely cutting myself off from sweets (in which case, I ate just about everything in sight to make up for the dissatisfaction of not eating chocolate, causing me to gain a zillion pounds); having only 1-3 squares of chocolate per night (which is great and all, until the weekend hits); saving it just for the weekend (don't talk to me between Monday-Friday); and finally, saying F it and eating sweets whenever I want.<br /><br />The point of that rant is to show you I have no clue what the hell I'm doing.<br /><br />Truth is, I limit my sweet tooth. A lot. I'm pretty good during the day, and must admit weekends I give in on my cheat meal. But during the week, I love something sweet after dinner. I've been resorting to protein shakes, apples and peanut butter, or gnawing off my son's arm. I think popping a few of these will be just what I need. Now if only I can not eat them all in one sitting.<br /><br />I adapted these from <a href="http://www.oxygenmag.com/fat-loss/whitney-changed-her-attitude-and-lost-30-pounds/">Oxygen Magazine</a>&nbsp;by changing up the chocolate (you know it) and making a few other changes.<br /><br />Makes about 30 gooey cookie dough bite-sized balls (it took everything out of me not to make a comment about gooey balls):<br /><br />1 cup quick oats<br />1 cup natural peanut butter<br />2 tbsp honey<br />4 tsp vanilla extract<br />30 semi-sweet chocolate chips<br />1/2 cup liquid egg whites (pasteurized)<br />4 tbsp unsweetened coconut almond milk<br />1 scoop chocolate protein powder (this is optional. If you omit this, use half the almond milk! I use <a href="http://www.vegasport.com/">Vega</a> Sport Chocolate)<br /><br />Using your ginormous biceps, combine all ingredients except chocolate chips and form into balls on wax paper (set on a cutting board or baking sheet). Add one chocolate chip to each ball. Place in freezer and let set for a minimum of 1 hour. Voila!<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-INOfjbho0t4/UlTFUYJ1HbI/AAAAAAAADyc/RSmGAY8yQ7E/s1600/image+(32).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-INOfjbho0t4/UlTFUYJ1HbI/AAAAAAAADyc/RSmGAY8yQ7E/s320/image+(32).jpeg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">These balls are a little lopsided, but I'll take it.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table>You can then put these bad boys in a freezer-friendly container, and when a sweet craving hits, just pop a few out of the freezer and let thaw for 15 minutes. Enjoy your balls!!!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-2105243229879556182013-09-23T08:00:00.000-04:002013-09-23T08:00:02.021-04:00Work, B**ch (Build your BUTT Workout!)It's been a while since I posted a workout, and even longer since I called you all bitches.<br /><br />Don't blame me, blame Britney for coming up with a catchy song that my teenage students could have written themselves.<br /><br />(Um, I totally downloaded it as soon as it came out). <br /><br />This workout will take you just under 20 minutes to complete, and you can do it ANYWHERE! Many people are surprised to hear that I'm a yoga teacher.<br /><br /><i>Wait, what? But you're a sarcastic, creepy, blonde bimbo who drinks wine, eats chocolate to excess, and swears way, way, way too much. You can't have any real educational background.&nbsp;</i><br /><br />I feel you, peeps. And while all of the above is true, I am a real yoga teacher. I even have clients! And photos as proof!<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2Dx0EhNLGvU/UjulPHTP0gI/AAAAAAAADxM/LCYpUyKsQqM/s1600/34581_883948418701_4032919_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2Dx0EhNLGvU/UjulPHTP0gI/AAAAAAAADxM/LCYpUyKsQqM/s320/34581_883948418701_4032919_n.jpg" width="213" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is actually me.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uJtdFeBAyPw/UjulV2FKPFI/AAAAAAAADxU/Sj_e__sdCWg/s1600/34581_883948393751_7551444_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uJtdFeBAyPw/UjulV2FKPFI/AAAAAAAADxU/Sj_e__sdCWg/s320/34581_883948393751_7551444_n.jpg" width="213" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This was right before that huge wave took me under.</td></tr></tbody></table><br />I'd like to think of myself as a fitness jack-off... Shoot, wait.. jack-OF-all-trades: on a weekly basis, I may do any number of workouts consisting of HIIT (high intensity interval training), cycling, running, strength training, and yoga. It has had a profound impact on my body, my training, and overall, my life- it is a type of training that I highly recommend to anyone at any age.<br /><br />My favourite type of yoga to practice and to teach is Power Vinyasa Yoga (flowing from one pose to the next intermixed with lots of strength moves). It's amazingly empowering, and helps my body stay strong and flexible (flexibility being a component of strength). At the beginning of the class, we usually set an intention- it could be patience (with yourself, your family, dumb people at the supermarket), staying non-judgemental (with yourself, your family, dumb people at the supermarket... uh, not that I'm judging), or it could be specific like unleashing your fears, making a transition in your life, or choosing to be happy.<br /><br />Pretty heavy stuff. This is why yoga is so cool. It helps you in ways you don't even realize. At the end of the class, during Savasana (basically where you get to play dead for 5-10 minutes, usually listen to some plinkity-plunkity music, somewhat hear what the teacher is saying, and try not to fall asleep), we think about our intention that we set at the beginning of the class. The circle of life.<br /><br />So there's a reason I've been talking about yoga and intentions- I connected with a Canadian company I want you all to know about called <a href="http://www.tinydevotions.com/">Tiny Devotions</a>! They keep this idea in mind of setting intentions not only in your yoga class, but EVERY DAY! Tiny Devotions makes beautiful malas (prayer beads that are gorgeous as everyday jewelry) that each have different meanings to inspire you to set a daily intention, and be more aware of your mind and body.<br /><br />My beauty friend <a href="http://www.scribblesandsass.com/">Laura Bridgman</a> first introduced me to Tiny Devotions. She even sent me this gorgeous amethyst stack bracelet from them... so I channelled my inner boho yogi and took this selfie.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y_KBss2Reng/Ujuj9pF7W7I/AAAAAAAADxA/m6TgrHC1dmE/s1600/tiny+devotions4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y_KBss2Reng/Ujuj9pF7W7I/AAAAAAAADxA/m6TgrHC1dmE/s320/tiny+devotions4.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This literally took 50 takes.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table>There are so many beautiful mala necklaces that I love... here are a few I'm coveting:<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Q2XJjBogUFc/Ujuh_3k3t0I/AAAAAAAADwc/YdRRuSndTPc/s1600/tiny+devotions3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Q2XJjBogUFc/Ujuh_3k3t0I/AAAAAAAADwc/YdRRuSndTPc/s320/tiny+devotions3.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Serendipity Mala (friendship, spontaneity, abundance, luck)</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TffD9YLeUqA/UjuiAl-1PtI/AAAAAAAADwk/BVHvqaYosTs/s1600/tiny+devotions2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TffD9YLeUqA/UjuiAl-1PtI/AAAAAAAADwk/BVHvqaYosTs/s320/tiny+devotions2.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mama Mala (motherhood, maternal instincts)<br />(I am a sucker for all things Mom. Just elderly. HAYYYYYYYY peeps! Sorry for being the most boring mofo on the planet.<br /><br />Truth is, I've been actually the opposite of boring: coffee dates, running by the boardwalk, cottaging, going out with friends, celebrating summer, participating in a new and exciting launch (more deets to follow soon!), and overall being awesome.<br /><br />Oh, and letting my son smash cars into my hardwood floor while I write.<br /><br />Not so awesome: my blogging skills. I got some great feedback from my Facebook fans that let me know that some (4) of you actually read this, which got me motivated to write again.<br /><br />The end.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Just kidding, I'll keep writing, just for the 4 of you. In July, I was at the cottage, getting up every morning with my husband and son and going trail running in preparation for my upcoming duathlon (run-bike-run). My back was a little tight from the hills, therefore I thought it would be a great idea to help my back feel better by swinging my 3-year-old nephew between my legs so he could kick a soccer ball.<br /><br />Bad call.<br /><br />I was out for a month. I went to my chiropractor (who I love.. she is a little pompous but she gets shit done) and got a few massages, but it took time, ice, TLC, and lots of telling my husband to do things for me for it to heal. I was actually really good nutrition-wise during my injury, as I literally could not do any working out. Because I was so amazing, I further told my husband what to do as a reward to myself.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5otUpDOq24s/Ui3Sw9JXQrI/AAAAAAAADwE/sbH-MJw9AdE/s1600/CandC.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5otUpDOq24s/Ui3Sw9JXQrI/AAAAAAAADwE/sbH-MJw9AdE/s320/CandC.jpg" width="220" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I really wish this man would do something around the house.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_9q-YScSGDo/Ui3S6toFWkI/AAAAAAAADwM/-sdDhBSUNn0/s1600/cottage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_9q-YScSGDo/Ui3S6toFWkI/AAAAAAAADwM/-sdDhBSUNn0/s320/cottage.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here is a photo of me in excruciating pain.</td></tr></tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />I was about two weeks out from my duathlon and still couldn't put pressure on my right side. (MostFit Suspension Training Giveaway!) I often get asked what I do in my home that involves straps, pulleys, a locked door, and my body weight.<br /><br />And to that, I say, it's none of yo' damn business.<br /><br />On an totally unrelated note, I (and other hot chicks of the <a href="http://www.facebook.com/mompowerteam">Mom Power Team</a>) was sent the <a href="http://www.most-fit.com/">MostFit Suspension Strap</a> to review. Now I love doing things in my home that involve straps, pulleys, a locked door, and my body weight, so this was right up my alley.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6jRrDJBEwIo/UgLAtFeusiI/AAAAAAAADvs/9OsOl64eCG8/s1600/MostFit+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6jRrDJBEwIo/UgLAtFeusiI/AAAAAAAADvs/9OsOl64eCG8/s320/MostFit+004.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My son has no chance of a normal upbringing.</td></tr></tbody></table><br />Suspension training is the latest and greatest in fitness training- you use your own body weight and get crazy amounts of resistance, totalling a core shredding, super amazing full-body strength workout using no weights. All of those adjectives were totally scientific.<br /><br />The MostFit Strap is affordable, easy to use, and hurts like a bitch. You put the strap in your front door, lock it, and give 'er. I've included a video that shows 6 exercises you can do that total an all-over, killer workout you can do in under 30 minutes, regardless of your fitness level.<br /><br />1. Chin Ups<br />2. Y Lifts<br />3. Push Ups<br />4. Oblique Twists<br />5. Jumping Squats<br />6. Plank<br /><br />Complete each exercise 10, 15, or 20 times (depending on your fitness level). Repeat 3x.<br /><br />No comments on my man voice.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><object class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/987_Ttpo6-k/0.jpg" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/987_Ttpo6-k?version=3&f=user_uploads&c=google-webdrive-0&app=youtube_gdata" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/987_Ttpo6-k?version=3&f=user_uploads&c=google-webdrive-0&app=youtube_gdata" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div><br /><br />I love this product! Suspension training is an excellent strength workout, and a sure way to utilize your core and work your entire body when performing an exercise. You can use it many places: in your home (use your front door), at the park (try throwing it over the monkeybars or a soccer post), or in your backyard (you just need a sturdy tree). Alternately, you can bring this bad boy to the gym and throw it over any universal machine or pulley set.<br /><br />I used this when teaching my outdoor Stroller HIIT classes with <a href="http://www.babyandmefitness.com/">Baby &amp; Me Fitness</a>, and the Mommas totally rocked it. We used a tree and pumped out a circuit- I loved being able to challenge my peeps with some hardcore strength training without lugging around dumbbells or weights.<br /><br />Here's the best part (besides getting jacked): the MostFit retails for only <a href="http://www.most-fit.com/">$29.99</a>!!! This is cray cray, as&nbsp;I actually have a TRX trainer in my home, and it cost me over $200 for the set. And I have to admit (sorry, wallet), I use the MostFit more than my TRX! It is SO affordable and it works the exact same (the only difference being that the strap isn't adjustable in length).<br /><br />Andrew at MostFit has a suspension trainer that you can WIN for yourself! There are 4 ways you can enter, so get at it, yo. Contest closes Monday, August 12th.<br /><br />In the meantime, I'm going to be hanging upside down from my chandelier.<br /><br /><a class="rafl" href="http://www.rafflecopter.com/rafl/display/f880100/" id="rc-f880100" rel="nofollow">a Rafflecopter giveaway</a><script src="//d12vno17mo87cx.cloudfront.net/embed/rafl/cptr.js"></script>Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-70624586143399487562013-06-20T22:26:00.003-04:002013-06-20T23:47:04.682-04:00Losing the F-ing Baby Weight, and Healthy Summertime IndulgingLet me premise this post by saying that I love food. I love good food. I love junk food. I love to eat. I love to feel full. I especially love chocolate. Basically, I'm a cow.<br /><br />I had good intentions to cook a massive slow cooked meal, like chili or fajitas or something healthy, when we moved a few weeks ago. But, I gave up on that idea when I realized my crock pot was packed. In fact, I still can't find it.<br /><br />I totally understand how people get super caught up and forget to eat well and exercise during the before-and-after stages of a move. Thankfully, people pay me money to kick the crap out of them, so I'm obligated to work out hard, at all times, so exercise was the easy part. Unfortunately, eating is about 70-80% of the game.<br /><br />I actually feel really good about my fitness level... I feel like I am BACK, baby. I am back to HIITing it like a bad ass mofo. I'm back to running. I am beginning to train for my first duathlon.<br /><br />What I don't feel is back? My body. I've talked to a lot of new Moms who say they are back to pre-pregnancy weight, but not pre-pregnancy shape. Have any of you experienced this? You're at the weight, but things still don't fit right?<br /><br />I'm feeling a bit of the opposite- I haven't hit my weight goal, but I feel like my SHAPE has come back (it's just overall bigger than before). My pre-pregnancy weight (I was 133lbs before and I'm hovering at the 140 mark... son of a) feels like it has been WAY harder to reach than I anticipated. I swear, the more time passes, the worse I think I look! Maybe I was drunk on the hormones (or literally drunk), but I felt pretty damn good about 4 months ago when I'd squeeze my ass into a mini skirt and duckface in the mirror while my son slept peacefully for five seconds. I'm not sure if I'm putting too much pressure on myself, but now I just feel gross. It was like my body was tight during pregnancy, and now it looks like a deflated bike tire.<br /><br />Yes, that's a good analogy. I look like a deflated bike tire. With stretch marks.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SlvprmiCDi0/UcO2uxTqb8I/AAAAAAAADuA/-xbNyG4hiVI/s1600/IMG_1732.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SlvprmiCDi0/UcO2uxTqb8I/AAAAAAAADuA/-xbNyG4hiVI/s320/IMG_1732.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I am ashamed to share this selfie. Mostly because it's a selfie. </td></tr></tbody></table>Regardless of this, I've had many good days of eating clean throughout the craziness that is life. I've also had many not-so-good meals, and some not-so-good days. Can you blame me? I went 40 weeks without a drop of booze. No wonder I felt so hot during pregnancy. I basically lost weight.<br /><br />With summer here, I can't have a gazillion more reasons to be too relaxed about eating. Here are a few suggestions when faced with summertime indulging:<br /><br /><b>1. HOST!</b> You get to pick the menu if you're the one throwing the party. We had a birthday party BBQ last week, and I made sure to get extra lean turkey burgers (better for you than most beef burgers), thin whole wheat buns (less carbs and cals than regular buns), avocado (nutrient-packed and far superior than typical burger condiments), and lots of yummy salads (the ones pictured are from Costco!)! If all else fails, have a potluck, and tell people what they are allowed to bring. If they show up with something else, kick them out.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eoE00DHiZdA/UcO2t1WlMiI/AAAAAAAADt0/Ms6uQtc3tKs/s1600/IMG_1703.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eoE00DHiZdA/UcO2t1WlMiI/AAAAAAAADt0/Ms6uQtc3tKs/s320/IMG_1703.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">F yeah.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><b>2. Do small preps.</b> For example, when you finally get some time to yourself, don't spend an hour meal prepping, unless that is therapeutic for you. Instead, do small meal preps during the week. I like (read: loathe) peeling hard-boiled eggs while watching the Bachelorette; and I prefer to chop veggies when I'm preparing dinner. Also, my husband is an awesome barbecuer! Tonight we cooked 4 chicken breasts and 2 salmon fillets, ready to chop and throw in a salad or add to quinoa or roasted veggies for quick lunches and dinners.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_sDyWNq3flY/UcO2sxaKU_I/AAAAAAAADtw/05w7pD2j1zo/s1600/IMG_1708.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_sDyWNq3flY/UcO2sxaKU_I/AAAAAAAADtw/05w7pD2j1zo/s320/IMG_1708.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I know, I am the only person alive who likes cauliflower.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TaGTGzOaxS4/UcO2_lPpkWI/AAAAAAAADuI/G3YleDfeU3A/s1600/IMG_1773.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TaGTGzOaxS4/UcO2_lPpkWI/AAAAAAAADuI/G3YleDfeU3A/s320/IMG_1773.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">What's everyone else having?</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><b>3. Cook one meal, feed two.</b> One of my favourite meals is a protein (salmon, chicken, pork) combined with my favourite roasted vegetables- 1 sweet potato, 1 squash (they have butternut squash pre-cut at most grocery stores), 1 parsnip, 10-15 brussel sprouts, 1/4 cauliflower, 10-15 grape tomatoes, 10-15 asparagus spears, and 1 zucchini- or, whatever I grab or have in the fridge. I roast a big ass pan (with olive oil, greek seasoning, cajun spice, rosemary, and pepper) and easily have enough for 6-8 meals that week between my husband and I.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PikEo_ttKs4/UcO3LnAumdI/AAAAAAAADuY/izuImrVn5VI/s1600/IMG_1726.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PikEo_ttKs4/UcO3LnAumdI/AAAAAAAADuY/izuImrVn5VI/s320/IMG_1726.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Tilapia and roasted veg!</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><b>4. PORTION.</b> This is my biggest problem. When I buy a Dairy Milk, I eat the whole thing. It's a serious problem. Then, I buy more Dairy Milk. So I've resorted to portioning out three squares that I'm allowed to eat every day. That's right- chocolate every day.<br /><br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EG_lfZrLp2U/UcO4LwuMN6I/AAAAAAAADuk/BHF4o6sf7Cc/s1600/dairy+milk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EG_lfZrLp2U/UcO4LwuMN6I/AAAAAAAADuk/BHF4o6sf7Cc/s1600/dairy+milk.jpg" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">But only three squares. Fuck.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table><br />I'd like to think I will grow up one day and become an actual adult who is able to have treats in the house without them burning a hole in my stomach until I consume every last crumb. I'll let you know when that happens.<br /><br /><br /><b>5. Keep alcohol to a minimum.</b> I am punching myself for even typing this, but the calories can really add up with drinking. Much like they can add up when eating. Crazy, right?<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j1_IRIvc9is/Ub-wllc1voI/AAAAAAAADtQ/oBz9MLGcTKw/s1600/MOTY2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j1_IRIvc9is/Ub-wllc1voI/AAAAAAAADtQ/oBz9MLGcTKw/s320/MOTY2.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The words you're looking for? Mother of the Year.</td></tr></tbody></table>Pick healthier options like wine, spritzers, light beer, or vodka soda. Try to stick to 2 drinks per week. I'm totally killing this- I mean, I went like, 40 weeks without alcohol. So if I average it out....<br /><br /><b>6. Be REAL. </b>I will never make you feel bad about yourself for eating an entire pint (read: litre) of ice cream in one sitting.. mainly because I may seriously consider taking out stock options in Cadbury. And my idea of a cheat meal is not peanut butter on toast. That being said, either indulge in small doses once a day (read: my three Dairy Milk squares.. so depressing) or save them for a bigger indulge once a week. On top of that, move your ass every day.<br /><br />And finally, surround yourself with people who tell you how amazing you look. This works well when you pay them.<br /><br /><i><b>Mommas- did you find it difficult to lose the baby weight? Harder than you thought? If any of you write "it was easier, the weight just fell off!" I will find you and punch you. Just saying.&nbsp;</b></i><br /><br /><br />Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-70276666779500595702013-06-17T21:30:00.001-04:002013-06-17T21:31:04.534-04:00My New Home Makes Me Realize I'm Old. So I assume you're tired of hearing me say that I've been really busy lately.<br /><br />Anyways, I've been really busy lately.<br /><br />Moving with a newborn (how long can I call my 6-month old a newborn? I'm thinking when he leaves for college) is HARD. It was the busiest time of my life, and still is- though I got a hell of a workout unpacking with Colton in the Baby Bjorn for an entire week straight. I also completely negated that workout by eating the typical moving food- pizza, beer (read: cider that looks like beer that makes me feel like I'm one of the guys), and pizza.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hWTq7BpHOzM/Ub-wmEr1lqI/AAAAAAAADtU/d8P7Sd49DJg/s1600/colton+duckface.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hWTq7BpHOzM/Ub-wmEr1lqI/AAAAAAAADtU/d8P7Sd49DJg/s320/colton+duckface.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ew. That pizza's going right to your hips, Mom.</td></tr></tbody></table><br />It's been an absolute whirlwind, but we were able to paint the entire main floor, our bedroom, and wallpaper two accent walls all in the first week of moving in. I've worked out in my home gym several times, continued to work, hosted two get togethers, and have had some amazing family time trying not to screw up our son for life. It's been surreal to sit back and take it all in. I picture my family in the future in our beautiful home and feel so incredibly lucky and happy. Mostly for really embarrassing old-person stuff like central vac, 2nd floor laundry, a water dispenser thingy on my fridge, crown moulding, and california shutters; but also for a great backyard and lots of space for my kids to play and make unforgettable family memories.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zMp8u9YIJZ0/Ub-wn0LomEI/AAAAAAAADtg/dLgtk66GeoA/s1600/Fam.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="301" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zMp8u9YIJZ0/Ub-wn0LomEI/AAAAAAAADtg/dLgtk66GeoA/s320/Fam.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">That's enough of the sappy stuff. Two Weeks LaterI've been majorly busy the last few weeks as we get our house packed up to move. I am SO EXCITED to be in our new house. I'm especially excited for people to move the heavy boxes that contain my many pairs of shoes (2 extra large boxes full... no joke), for my Mom to cook for me, and for my Dad to paint and wallpaper. I'll be busy "taking care of my son" (read: walking 5 minutes to the wine store). I'm not sure why people say they hate moving???<br /><br />I haven't had a chance to write about my first Mother's Day, so this will be about 4 posts in one. For those who don't follow me on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/fitinheelsblog">Facebizzle</a> or <a href="http://www.twitter.com/fit_in_heels">Twittzer</a>, well... I understand why you don't because of my embarrassing need to make words sound remotely un-gangsterish. Though I do post fun things there, including my latest post for What to Expect.<br /><br />I really wanted the title for this to be "How to Make Sure Your First Mother's Day Doesn't Suck", but I relented and went with "<a href="http://www.whattoexpect.com/wom/baby/a-letter-to-my-husband-on-my-first-mother-s-day.aspx">A Letter to my Husband on my First Mother's Day</a>". Take a gander if you'd like.<br /><br />Just before my first Mother's Day, I got an email telling me I had been chosen as one of three new <a href="http://busymomgetsfit.com/busy-mom-gets-fit-power-team/">Mom Power Team</a> members! This is an amazing group of Moms who kill it in the gym and manage to find time to do everything else in life. Apparently I fooled them enough to make them think I do the same.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8lFemrto6go/UZ4gyhtQu_I/AAAAAAAADso/Yoi8QkGi1LI/s1600/mompowerteam.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="264" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8lFemrto6go/UZ4gyhtQu_I/AAAAAAAADso/Yoi8QkGi1LI/s320/mompowerteam.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>My first Mother's Day in real life totally rocked. I was woken up by something other than my son... the ALARM. I was running the Sporting Life 10K and we had to be up at the butt crack of dawn to be down there in time along with the other 27,000 runners (WTF). I realize most Moms would run 10 kilometres way the hell in the other direction in order to sleep in and stay way the F away from a diaper, but I was excited to do my first race since having my little <strike>ear drum killer</strike> angel.<br /><br />The best part about the run? My Dad throwing out his back.<br /><br />Wait, hear me out. My Dad is a runner and threw out his back the week before the race. While this is terrible, my Mom actually decided that she would take his bib and DO THE RACE herself!!!! She's never done a race before, and I was really pumped and proud that she did it. She is notoriously a walker, but ended up doing a run/walk and finished in 1:16! Basically faster than a shit ton of people who ran alone. She is cray cray. It's great to get out and listen to music and be with myself for a while, but to get back to my regular pace has been harder than I anticipated. That being said, I was really happy with my run. My legs felt heavy the entire time, but I did it, and I felt great about that.<br /><br />I finished in 53:33 (my PR is 48:25, but this was a great run for me!) and my hubby and baby boy were at the finish line waiting for me. Urban Running Girl makes running shrugs...yes, that's right...RUNNING SHRUGS! These shrugs are designed for active women. <em>"The idea of a running shrug came about from the need to keep warm while warming up during and early morning run, particularly in the spring and fall. It's too cool to start with only a tank top or t-shirt, but once you are warmed up and/or outside the temperature rises. Then it becomes too warm for a long sleeve shirt or jacket". </em>These shrugs come in a variety of colours: purple, black, pink, orange and turquoise. The shrugs are made of tech material that wicks away quickly, it also has fold over cuffs that you can use to cover your hands on cooler days!</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> <br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong><em><u>Prize:</u></em></strong> One awesome running shrug in your choice of colours!</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ib-j1tBlflk/UYcCIF9D4cI/AAAAAAAAF-c/R0XWWujkERE/s1600/Allergic+Solutions+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="473" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ib-j1tBlflk/UYcCIF9D4cI/AAAAAAAAF-c/R0XWWujkERE/s640/Allergic+Solutions+5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><span lang="EN-US"><em><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></em></span><br /><a href="http://allergicsolution.com/"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Allergic Solution</span></a><br /><br /><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Allergic Solution allergen-free mixes were created from a place of knowledge about nutrition and how a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle can heal the body. These babies could be YOURS!Often, I'm contacted by people who would like to send me stuff. Generally, it's people offering to give me the finger, but this time it was a little different.<br /><br />I was contacted by <a href="http://www.jaybirdgear.com/bluebuds-x-bluetooth-headphones/">JayBird Sport</a>, asking if I'd like to try out their stylish and sleek premium bluetooth wireless headphones.<br /><br />I figured they saw how exceptionally hardcore I am (read: I walk with my baby and often get out of breath) and wanted to send me a pair to try out. Then, I checked out their <a href="https://www.facebook.com/JaybirdSport?fref=ts">Facebook page</a> and saw many, many athletes doing things like mountain biking, road racing, skydiving, snowboarding... pretty much everything I don't do.<br /><br />Then, I understood. They got this photo of me going for my run and figured I could really benefit from looking much more badass.<br /><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6sQqyvr1BHI/UYblWGnNEmI/AAAAAAAADqM/vBaS_GfiTFo/s1600/jaybird.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="146" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6sQqyvr1BHI/UYblWGnNEmI/AAAAAAAADqM/vBaS_GfiTFo/s400/jaybird.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Man, I look good.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I decided to snap my own photo, this time of me jumping rope.<br /><br /><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ms0zzv5YUMA/UYblN_3j6ZI/AAAAAAAADqA/T_BFnCVKc5Q/s1600/jaybird.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="264" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ms0zzv5YUMA/UYblN_3j6ZI/AAAAAAAADqA/T_BFnCVKc5Q/s320/jaybird.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">You can tell it's me because of my jacked pipes.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table><br />I was intrigued. Music MAKES my workouts, and not needing to worry about wires on headphones seemed too good to be true.<br /><br />I immediately dove into these bad boys when I got them in my hands. It was a little daunting to configure them, but that's because I have a hard time putting batteries in the remote control, let alone pick from two different ways to wear the headphones (in front of ears or behind ears), three different earbud sizes (I'm happy to say, I have very skinny eardrums), and three different ear cushions. <br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p4VU7-1C-E8/UYcFQJfubQI/AAAAAAAADq8/G11UjBzqhvw/s1600/photo+%252830%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p4VU7-1C-E8/UYcFQJfubQI/AAAAAAAADq8/G11UjBzqhvw/s320/photo+%252830%2529.JPG" width="215" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I have a confession. That really wasn't me in the other photos. In case you were wondering.</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O7PXQSJ4_l0/UYcFNBow94I/AAAAAAAADqw/EN89cW8j5dY/s1600/image+(17).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O7PXQSJ4_l0/UYcFNBow94I/AAAAAAAADqw/EN89cW8j5dY/s320/image+(17).jpeg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My buds.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table><br />It was seamless to connect to the Bluetooth on my iPhone (it took all of 5 seconds)! I felt like a rock star walking away from my phone and still being able to hear my music. I felt like less of a rock star when I couldn't find my phone a few hours later.<br /><br />Finding the perfect fit does take a little getting used to. It took me a few runs to get it just right- I thought there wasn't enough bass at first, but realized I needed to make a tiny fit adjustment to correct the problem, and change my iPod setting to Equalizer for greater sound.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sPzwnN-rQ4U/UYcFMYyT2LI/AAAAAAAADqs/GKrbiq7uhqs/s1600/image+%252816%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sPzwnN-rQ4U/UYcFMYyT2LI/AAAAAAAADqs/GKrbiq7uhqs/s320/image+%252816%2529.jpeg" width="297" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">You cant tell, but I'm smizing.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table><br />There are TONS of reasons to love these headphones. They are the official training headphones of USA Triathlon (which I'm pretty much a team member of), they have an amazing heavy duty 8-hour battery life, they have X-Fit- the ability to use the headphones in either over or under ear fit, they are protected by Liquipel Sweat Repellant Nano Technology (a $59.99 value), and they are overall just super badass. In addition, they have this voice prompt chick named Jenna that helps you understand your controls. This makes me feel like I have friends.<br /><br />I had my music playing at full blast and my husband couldn't tell if I was playing music or not. This works out in my favour, as I listen to really embarrassing music when I work out.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_S1D8cxdyOw/UYcFHa1lq6I/AAAAAAAADqc/ohW6ecGyNGo/s1600/image+%252815%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_S1D8cxdyOw/UYcFHa1lq6I/AAAAAAAADqc/ohW6ecGyNGo/s320/image+%252815%2529.jpeg" width="223" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sing it, Celine!</td></tr></tbody></table>These babies are awesome. They passed the run test, the weight lifting test, and the jump rope test. I'm just going to come out and say it.<br /><br />You need to WORK YOUR ASS OFF in order for your ASS TO GET HOTTER.<br /><br />Let me premise this post that I am aware that some people are unfamiliar with machines at the gym or unsure how to use weights. I am aware that some people have injuries or limitations that may halt their ability to really push it. So before anyone yells at me and says, "some people need to use ____", or "I'm injured and can't work at my max"- I am agreeing with you. But that is for about 5% of people, or my 88-year old grandmother. Otherwise, I really want to yell "COME ON!!!!" to the other 95% of the people in the gym.<br /><br />I'm talking to you, woman on the bike going 2 mph and chatting on your cell phone. I don't care if the screen says that you are in the "fat burning zone." Here's what's better: get yourself into the cardio zone. Make your heart work. Push yourself. SWEAT. And while you're at it, get off the machine and pick up a jump rope. You can't talk on the phone if your hands are busy.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-et49-zvuWJI/UX8Zg6xDCCI/AAAAAAAADpw/mGUYvP0xR9g/s1600/bike.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-et49-zvuWJI/UX8Zg6xDCCI/AAAAAAAADpw/mGUYvP0xR9g/s320/bike.jpg" width="212" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hi, honey! I'm getting a great workout.</td></tr></tbody></table><br />I'm also talking to you, chick who is doing bicep curls with 2-pound weights. Your purse weighs eight times that weight. Either curl your purse, or pick up the 15s. Do three sets of 12 with a one minute rest in between (max). And while you're at it, drop and give me 20. I don't care if it's on your knees or on your toes. Get out of breath. Work.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P_-76easge0/UX8ZF9WqZoI/AAAAAAAADpo/-HmQv_9OTK8/s1600/big+purse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P_-76easge0/UX8ZF9WqZoI/AAAAAAAADpo/-HmQv_9OTK8/s1600/big+purse.jpg" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">While you're at it, where did you get this purse? It's fierce.</td></tr></tbody></table><br />To the baby mommas: You pushed a watermelon out of your vajayjay and carry around a 20-pound human for most of your day. You can increase your heart rate to more than 50% of its max. I know this is okay, because I can do it. Just saying.<br /><br />And here's what I have to say to this chick:<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-B59RovbK9WE/UX8Ypa0ep-I/AAAAAAAADpg/9Q5Os4BxTVY/s1600/funny+fitness10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-B59RovbK9WE/UX8Ypa0ep-I/AAAAAAAADpg/9Q5Os4BxTVY/s320/funny+fitness10.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Get off this machine.</td></tr></tbody></table><span style="text-align: center;">Unless you are dealing with a groin injury (which even still, cables would be better for your rehab and not this sex machine), don't bother with this machine. It will not make your thighs smaller. It works against the direction of your leg muscles... therefore it is pretty much pointless. (The hip abductor- the opposite move- has a few benefits, if you have hours to spend in the gym. Otherwise, do squats. Then do lunges. Maybe leg press/hacksquat, and hamstring curls. These are WAY better for you). You want to move in the direction that your muscle fibres are running. For example, your bicep muscles run from your shoulder to your elbow. This is why we work the muscle by doing bicep curls, and why we don't work the muscle side to side. It doesn't make sense!!</span><br /><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: center;">So here's what you should do.&nbsp;</span><br /><br /><span style="text-align: center;">-If possible, buy a few sessions with a REPUTABLE personal trainer. Like me. And pay me lots of money.&nbsp;</span><br /><span style="text-align: center;">-Don't go to the gym. Do my <a href="http://www.fitinheels.com/p/workouts.html">workouts</a>&nbsp;at home instead.&nbsp;</span><br /><span style="text-align: center;">-Look at the hardest working person in the gym. Chances are, they look good. Watch them creepily, and then do what they do.</span><br /><span style="text-align: center;">-Instead of spending an hour +&nbsp;in the gym, spend half an hour to 45 minutes... and kick the crap out of it by doing <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interval_training">interval training</a>, <a href="http://exercise.about.com/cs/weightlifting/a/supersets.htm">supersets</a>, and/or functional body movements (squats, deadlifts, lunges, planks).&nbsp;</span><br /><span style="text-align: center;">-Go to the gym and do my <a href="http://www.fitinheels.com/p/workouts.html">workouts</a> there. Email me to ask the best way to send me gifts for getting you such great results and so many phone numbers.&nbsp;</span><br /><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: center;">Preach.&nbsp;</span><br /><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span><span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span><br /><br /><br />Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-80992315947462145102013-04-16T08:00:00.000-04:002013-04-16T09:00:45.559-04:00Two things to do today. #prayersforboston<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4TAnP-nyx7Y/UW1LUV5NjeI/AAAAAAAADpA/paxwwz24ohk/s1600/boston.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="background-color: yellow; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4TAnP-nyx7Y/UW1LUV5NjeI/AAAAAAAADpA/paxwwz24ohk/s320/boston.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-1769629360269229552013-04-15T08:45:00.000-04:002013-04-15T08:45:06.421-04:00Why I've been MIA... Even Though You Probably Didn't Notice. I really want to be one of those bloggers who takes those beautiful photos of them looking sexy after just working out, finishes the photo with some cool filter thing that makes it look like it was taken in the 1960s, and then cursively writes something motivational across the photo like "Never Give Up with Fit In Heels!" or "Fit In Heels Early Morning Runski!"<br /><br />Unfortunately, I haven't have the time.<br /><br />Okay, I lied. I have no clue how to do that shit.<br /><br />While no one but probably my Mom and Sister have noticed, I have been completely MIA from blogging lately. Mostly because I've been eating Mini Eggs and wine as full meals (hence why I'm hosting a <a href="http://www.fitinheels.com/2013/04/lose-weight-and-win-money-with-me.html">DietBet</a> starting ONE WEEK today), but also because we bought a house, sold a house, did not live in our house that was being sold for over a week, and oh yeah... this guy.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sGm35LiBgFA/UWvuvk93mPI/AAAAAAAADoo/fRqRb0YecQE/s1600/mommy+and+colton.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sGm35LiBgFA/UWvuvk93mPI/AAAAAAAADoo/fRqRb0YecQE/s320/mommy+and+colton.jpg" width="204" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">To answer your question, yes, this is as wide as my eyes would open.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table>I am SO EXCITED that we sold our house. Our new house was a ginormous surprise that we stumbled upon, happened to bid for, and get (we planned on selling our house first and buying after)! It had a closing date of May 27th, and we hadn't even listed our house at the time we bought. That being said, we keep finding ourselves shrieking in bed at night thanking our lucky stars that it is ours. You read that right- shrieking in bed. So, on top of caring for a newborn and trying to fit in workouts, we had to work our asses off getting our current house ready to go on the market.<br /><br />We move in 6 weeks (!!!) so we have been tirelessly packing, staging, cleaning, getting rid of tons of shit from our old house, and buying more shit for our new house. It's been a stressful, tiring, and LONG 2 weeks since we bought our dream home, and this weekend, our current house SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDD (please only read this in the way that a European soccer announcer would yell GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!)!<br /><br />I am so excited to have more space, a great backyard, a kitchen with an island, an ensuite, 2nd floor laundry, one of those water dispenser thingys on the fridge, and a HOME GYM IN THE BASEMENT!!!<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nOuuRHgQZP0/UWvvnxIo8dI/AAAAAAAADow/jj25hMNXPOw/s1600/homygym.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nOuuRHgQZP0/UWvvnxIo8dI/AAAAAAAADow/jj25hMNXPOw/s320/homygym.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Note: this is the seller's photo. I will not have a lounge chair in my home gym. <br />Perhaps a bar, though. &nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table>The previous owner ran her pilates business out of the basement (one side will be a rec room and the other our home gym... Even as I type this I can't believe it... I have a gym. In my house. Mother F.). There are floor to ceiling mirrors (selfieeeeeeeee) and plenty of space for me to jump rope, kettlebell, clean, and snatch that mofo into a sweaty pulp.<br /><br />I have no idea what I just said.<br /><br />I promise to bring you many, many NEW workouts coming at you from my basement. In the meantime, <a href="http://www.fitinheels.com/p/workouts.html">choose your own adventure</a>!<br /><br />I also promise to be funnier again, one day.<br /><br /><br /><b><i>What is something you'd love to have in your home? I have baby weight to lose.<br /><div><br /></div><div>I'm not going to lie, I assumed that I'd be back to normal by this time (my baby is 4 months old), which sounds ridiculous when I read back that fact. 4 months. But really, I didn't gain a ton of weight (32 pounds), and I assumed that the first 15 would come off by pushing the watermelon out of my hoo-ha (or at least that's how it felt) and the remainder would easily fall off through a combination of sneezing, laughing, and drinking wine.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>Apparently, that isn't how it works.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>I was in need of an ass-kick, so I joined&nbsp;<a href="http://dietbet.com/fitinheels">DietBet</a>&nbsp;in February. Fitfluential was hosting it and I thought it was a great concept:&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>-Sign up by putting money into the pot.&nbsp;</div><div>-Lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks.&nbsp;</div><div>-Whoever hits their 4% weight loss goal splits the pot.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Ch-ch-ch-check it out:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><object width="320" height="266" class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="http://img.youtube.com/vi/695voLg_uhc/0.jpg"><param name="movie" value="http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/695voLg_uhc&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/695voLg_uhc&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div><div><br /></div><div>Read: You WIN MONEY for losing weight!!! Woooo!!!&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>I signed up for $25 and met my goal (I had to lose 6.4 lbs in one month- well in the range of 1-2 lbs. a week, deemed healthy weight loss) and I walked away with $45 in my pocket! So I bought myself a $100 pair of pants. Totally makes sense.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>I found it to be extremely effective as it held me ACCOUNTABLE. It was a great community where people shared weight loss and exercise tips, so much so that I am now hosting my own game, and would love you to&nbsp;<a href="http://dietbet.com/fitinheels">join me</a>!&nbsp;It starts&nbsp;<b>April 21st</b>... more than enough time for me to&nbsp;<strike>buy discount&nbsp;Mini Eggs</strike>&nbsp;give away all my Easter Candy.</div><div><br /></div><div>The more people that sign up, the better the pot gets! I know what you're thinking:<br /><br />1. "I don't remember you from <i>16 and Pregnant</i>."<br />2. "So THAT'S why your undereye bags have grown exponentially."<br />3. "I wouldn't take advice from you if my life depended on it."<br /><br />I agree with all of the above, and I'm happy you feel the same. I was shocked and excited to be part of this community, especially because WhatToExpect.com says that Word of Mom is a "platform dedicated to honest, engaged, informed, intelligent, and open conversation about pregnancy and parenting".<br /><br />At least mine fits into the "honest" category.<br /><br />My piece is titled, <a href="http://www.whattoexpect.com/wom/baby/the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly-of-working-out-after-baby.aspx" style="font-style: italic;"><b>The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Working Out After Baby</b></a>! I decided to write about this topic because there were so many things that I was unprepared for when it came to working out after baby. Being a fit pregnant woman, I thought it would be a piece of cake to get back at it after my baby boy came.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.whattoexpect.com/wom/baby/the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly-of-working-out-after-baby.aspx">Read it</a> if you'd like a good laugh... though if you are a new Mom, be sure you don't pee yourself.<br /><br /><i>If you like it, please press the Facebook or Twitter share button <u>within</u> the article! This way they may let me write for them in the future where I can demand millions of dollars and I will happily share with all of you.&nbsp;</i>Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-69796078849929362132013-03-13T12:04:00.000-04:002013-03-13T12:08:11.123-04:00Baby Weight- Win a copy of this prenatal and postpartum book!<a href="http://www.babyweightfitness.com/">Baby Weight</a>- the complete guide to Prenatal and Postpartum Fitness is a book that I received in December, shortly after giving birth to my baby boy, Colton. Micky Morrison, the author, is a licensed physical therapist with over 15 years of experience in women's health and pediatrics.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tk1Da3DNfZI/UUCgt9aCq2I/AAAAAAAADoQ/Uahzmggi6rQ/s1600/babyweight-book3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="345" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Tk1Da3DNfZI/UUCgt9aCq2I/AAAAAAAADoQ/Uahzmggi6rQ/s400/babyweight-book3.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I totally look like this after baby. <br />Also, my baby never drools or barfs in my face.</td></tr></tbody></table><br />I am very impressed with this book- especially if you are knowledgeable about fitness, or if you are a trainer or fitness instructor yourself- as Morrison details many exercises for both prenatal women and postpartum Mommies in addition to information about diet. There are MANY types of exercises that are both NOT good, and VERY good for a woman who is expecting or has just recently had a baby! This book details hundreds of different types of exercises that you can do right at home- some of them interacting with baby. I found this extremely beneficial to both me and my baby boy- you can get your body back without leaving your baby behind!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1qWmdH-MdmI/UUCkUGJWuwI/AAAAAAAADoY/j-KzEyzMVZE/s1600/babyweight-book.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1qWmdH-MdmI/UUCkUGJWuwI/AAAAAAAADoY/j-KzEyzMVZE/s400/babyweight-book.jpg" width="321" /></a></div><br /><br />Morrison has been generous to offer one of my readers a chance to own this book as well. It makes for a wonderful addition to your baby book library, and makes for great reading when you're finally able to enjoy a glass of wine :)<br /><br />As a bonus for Mommas who like to have a video to follow, Morrison is in the process of putting together Baby Weight TV with some of her CoreMama exercises to follow by video- stay tuned for an opportunity to win a six month subscription.<br /><br />To win this book, please head over to the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BabyWeightFitness">Baby Weight</a> Facebook page, and let Micky know that I sent you, and why you'd like to give this book a try! Winner will be announced on Sunday on my <a href="http://www.facebook.com/fitinheelsblog">Facebook</a> page. I say happy spring break like it means anything to me this year. I didn't even remember it was Tuesday today (being off on maternity leave will do that to you). In any case, I hope you get to hang out with your friends, drink lots of wine, and enjoy life this week! I stayed up until 1:30am last night and want to kill myself today. Parenthood rocks. <br /><br />The last thing you want to do on Spring Break is <strike>read this blog</strike>&nbsp;work out, so this Tabata Tuesday will still take you only 20 minutes, but this time it's no F'ing around. These moves are standard, and if you ever need a quick workout that you don't need to think much about, here it is.<br /><br />Make sure you complete a warm up and cool down when completing this. And by "cool down", I mean blasting <strike>Cher</strike>&nbsp; <strike>Ace of Base</strike>&nbsp;&nbsp;<strike>That weird song that says "Barbra Streisand" over and over</strike>&nbsp; a really cool, recent hit song and dancing in an appropriate manner.<br /><br />Remember that Tabata workouts include completing one move 8 times in a row, each time for 20 seconds with a 10 second break in between. Give yourself 1 minute in between each Tabata (exercise x8).<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1dOrIaOqz8/UT8x_ziUjvI/AAAAAAAADoA/7sr9M97p87Y/s1600/Tabata+Tuesday+%236.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1dOrIaOqz8/UT8x_ziUjvI/AAAAAAAADoA/7sr9M97p87Y/s400/Tabata+Tuesday+%236.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><b>1. Push Ups</b><br />Toes or knees. Bam.<br /><br /><b>2. Wide Jumping Squat</b><br />Feet wide, toes turned out 45 degrees. Squat down and jump about 2 inches off the floor, and fall directly back into a squat.<br /><br /><b>3. Bicycle Sit Up&nbsp;</b><br />Starting on your back, crunch your right armpit to your opposite knee. Repeat with other side. (I say armpit instead of elbow to guarantee a good crunch!)<br /><br /><b>4. Mountain Climbers</b><br />Begin in a plank position. Bring your foot as close to between your hands as possible, and alternate as quickly as you can. Try to keep your butt down and in a plank position.<br /><br />Happy Spring Break! Have a glass of wine for me- or, I'll have one for you. Share your workout by using the hashtag #tabatatuesday!Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-87063265372219524572013-03-05T10:28:00.002-05:002013-03-05T10:28:42.042-05:00Tabata Tuesday #5- Burn MEGA calories at home in no time! Tabata Tuesday #5 is here! I can't believe it's Tuesday already. I say that because I haven't looked at a calendar (or a mirror... thank God) in three months.<br /><br />Here are 4 moves you can do at home that will SHRED your body in no time, baby! Well, okay. It isn't exactly no time, but you get my drift. This will take you 20 minutes. Be sure to include a warm up and cool down! And by "cool down", I mean running through the house and sticking your head under a sink with cold water running. Or at least that's what I did.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><i><b>Each Tabata = 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest... x8!</b></i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i><b><br /></b></i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MmAuLzP8-7o/UTYOnPaq4-I/AAAAAAAADnw/UwW2qLRY2HI/s1600/Katy+Livingstone-+Fit+In+Heels-+Tabata+Tuesday+%235.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MmAuLzP8-7o/UTYOnPaq4-I/AAAAAAAADnw/UwW2qLRY2HI/s400/Katy+Livingstone-+Fit+In+Heels-+Tabata+Tuesday+%235.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i><b><br /></b></i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><b>1. Win a Starbucks gift card! Can you believe it's almost March? My son is now 3 months old, and that is just wild. I mean, I can't believe he isn't in college by now. It would be great to have some new drinking buddies.<br /><br />For the first week of March, and in honour of St. Patty's Day, I'm hosting Healthy Green week! Every day for the first week in March, join me by submitting your photos on Twitter or Instagram to @fit_in_heels,&nbsp;using the hashtag #greenchallenge! This Tabata workout is full-body, rockin' hard training that gets in and gets out. Just how I like it.<br /><br />You'll have 4 Tabatas with a 1 minute break in between each, totalling 20 minutes. Make sure you include a dynamic warm up and cool down! And by "cool down", I mean cursing my name with a slight whisper, as you'll be too tired to do anything else.<br /><br />Each Tabata is 8 rounds- 20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest... x8!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0tUq0ddGIPQ/USzFnLJHQJI/AAAAAAAADhg/xr4cNjBUvqg/s1600/tabatatuesday4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0tUq0ddGIPQ/USzFnLJHQJI/AAAAAAAADhg/xr4cNjBUvqg/s400/tabatatuesday4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><br /><b>1. Jumping Speed Skate</b><br />Keeping your chest lifted, jump laterally, landing on your right foot and bring your left foot slightly behind you. Your left arm will be straight out in front of you, like a speed skater. Repeat by jumping to the left and bringing your right arm forward.<br />MODIFICATION: you can do this without the jump- so step to your right and left but bring your opposite hand to your foot (so step to your right and bring your left hand to touch your right foot).<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><object class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="http://1.gvt0.com/vi/zGlK-7Nc3wE/0.jpg" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zGlK-7Nc3wE&fs=1&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zGlK-7Nc3wE&fs=1&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><br /><b>2. Dive Bomber Push Ups&nbsp;+ Major Air</b><br />This puppy is what I like to call my little bitch. It incorporates your entire body and hurts so good. Begin in a downward dog position- Hips high, hands extended. Bend the elbows wide into a push up. When straightening your arms, explode up, full body, and jump your feet into the air as high as you can. Get some major air!<br />MODIFICATION: Instead of major air, extend one leg in the air. Repeat the dive bomber push up and extend the other leg.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><object class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="http://1.gvt0.com/vi/Udr6I93tdC0/0.jpg" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Udr6I93tdC0&fs=1&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Udr6I93tdC0&fs=1&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div><br /><br /><b>3. Shuffle&nbsp;+ Jumping Lunge</b><br />This lateral movement is awesome for a cardio and resistance blast. Complete 8 shuffles to the right, and then 8 jumping lunges to the left, returning to starting position. Repeat.<br />MODIFICATION: If space is an issue, stay in place as you shuffle and lunge.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><object class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="http://2.gvt0.com/vi/ZPjO3aUhWE4/0.jpg" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZPjO3aUhWE4&fs=1&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZPjO3aUhWE4&fs=1&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div><br /><b>4. Mountain Climbers&nbsp;</b><br />I HATE these things. But they are amazing.<br />Begin in a plank position. Bring one foot as close to in between your hands as possible, and switch legs.<br />MODIFICATION: Bring your knee into your chest. Repeat with other side.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><object class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="http://1.gvt0.com/vi/QGfPxN8B70E/0.jpg" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QGfPxN8B70E&fs=1&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QGfPxN8B70E&fs=1&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div><br />Let me know how you did by using the hashtag #tabatatuesday and sharing on <a href="http://www.twitter.com/fit_in_heels">Twitter</a>, <a href="http://www.instagram.com/fit_in_heels">Instagram</a> or <a href="http://www.facebook.com/fitinheelsblog">Facebook</a>!Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-3391188701169160012013-02-25T14:05:00.002-05:002013-02-25T14:21:05.955-05:00Clean(er) Butter Chicken! You ask, I deliver, peeps! I had a ton of requests for my clean(er) version of Oscar Night Butter Chicken, and I aim to please. Butter Chicken is one of my FAVE Indian dishes- everything about it is so comforting and hearty. But the fact that the dish has the word "butter" in it... well, we won't go there.<br /><br />This dish has no butter (sub strained tomatoes) and no cream (coconut milk instead!) in it- and it is DELISH! The slow cooked chicken, chick peas, and sweet potatoes make this dish thick and yummy- great for a stormy night at home watching reruns of Sex and the City. Not that I ever do that.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n8IlXP7_c64/USuwpM8khMI/AAAAAAAADgc/aJOX-LgWWhE/s1600/image+(13).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n8IlXP7_c64/USuwpM8khMI/AAAAAAAADgc/aJOX-LgWWhE/s320/image+(13).jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><br /><b>Grocery List (serves 8):</b><br />- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (you can also use thighs)<br />- 1 can of chick peas, drained and rinsed well<br />- 1 jar of strained tomatoes (found usually on the bottom shelf in the grocery store where the pasta/pasta sauce is)<br />- 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed<br />- Heaping handful of fresh spinach<br />- 1 jar Patak's Butter Chicken Paste (or equivalent)<br />- 1/2 can coconut milk (or more, depending on how thick you would like the dish)<br /><br /><b>Optional:</b><br />- Cilantro<br />- Greek Yogurt<br />- 2 to 3 Roma tomatoes<br />- Whole grain brown rice or whole grain Naan bread<br />- Any vegetables you would like to add<br /><br />In a large crock pot or slow cooker, layer chicken breasts, sweet potatoes, chick peas, strained tomatoes, roma tomatoes (if using), and butter chicken paste. Make sure to stir the paste into the strained tomatoes and that the chicken and sweet potatoes are covered with liquid. Cook on low for 8 hours.<br /><br />After about 7-7.5 hours, open the slow cooker lid and shred the chicken (it should break apart easily). pour the coconut milk into the slow cooker and mix well. Add spinach to the top and cover. Cook for remaining half hour. (Option is to serve the butter chicken over spinach instead of adding it to the slow cooker).<br /><br />Voila! Serve by itself, with 1/3 cup whole grain brown rice, or 1/2 piece whole grain Naan bread. Garnish with dollop of greek yogurt and cilantro.<br /><br />*As a bonus, this dish freezes well!<br /><br /><b><i>What's your favourite comfort food that you'd like to see made "clean"?&nbsp;</i></b><br /><br /><br />Katy Livingstonehttps://plus.google.com/116069099925806672735noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3491232015030505839.post-60108826708427676332013-02-22T15:11:00.003-05:002013-02-22T15:11:43.460-05:00Healthy, Sexy Fats with the Eat Clean Diet Team!As an Eat Clean Diet Ambassador, I have many roles.<br /><br />1. I eat clean.<br /><br />2. I work out.<br /><br />3. I write about eating clean and working out.<br /><br />... Well, I guess that's it.<br /><br />Many people still believe that eating clean involves nibbling on styrofoam and pecking at bird seed. My job is to help debunk myths and show people that it's all about eating like a&nbsp;@%#!ing champion- a hungry champion.<br /><br />Each month, the Eat Clean Diet team has a different theme to help people adopt the lifestyle. This month, it's all about <a href="http://ow.ly/hgX3q">healthy fats</a>! And no, I don't mean the healthy layer(s) of fat that I am currently holding onto after having a child. Healthy fats are essential for brain function, heart health, and can even boost your metabolism (read: help you LOSE fat!)! How? By it's satiating ability! We'd call them Thirsty Thursdays. I would <strike>sleep through my alarm</strike>&nbsp;get up early to go to my classes, <strike>whip up some Kraft Dinner at 4pm</strike>&nbsp;make a healthy lunch and dinner, hit up the gym (okay, I would actually do that), get ready to go out while listening to <strike>Faith Hill and Tim McGraw</strike>&nbsp;chart-topping hits of the early 2000s, and <strike>down shots of straight vodka</strike>&nbsp;casually sip a vintage&nbsp;Chardonnay&nbsp;before hitting up the bar, <strike>wasted</strike> sober.<br /><br />While Thirsty Thursdays have changed (drinking water, breastfeeding, and going to bed at 10pm is so sexy), my spirit has not. While I generally stick to water (and wine) when it comes to beverages of choice, I got excited to get a treat in the mail the other week!<br /><br />The peeps at VitaminWater Canada sent me a sample pack of new VitaminWater ZERO to try- including flavours like "resilient-C" (grape raspberry), "go go" (mixed berry) and "xoxox" (acai-blueberry-pomegranate)!<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HE6b_JKnVeE/USWKTzj5R0I/AAAAAAAADZ4/AOjt0I_tVXU/s1600/vitaminwater.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HE6b_JKnVeE/USWKTzj5R0I/AAAAAAAADZ4/AOjt0I_tVXU/s320/vitaminwater.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Not to mention a tote bag with the words I'm sure my husband would like to say to me every time I demolish a bag of Mini Eggs.&nbsp;</td></tr></tbody></table>VitaminWater ZERO is a calorie-free version of the original line of VitaminWater drinks. It is sweetened with Stevia and erythritol (as opposed to sugar in the original version, and artificial sweeteners in other drinks), and it tastes great!! This was a nice treat in my daily quest to drink a gallon of water. God, I am so freaking boring.<br /><br />While water is always your best bet for hydration, VitaminWater ZERO is a fun substitute that is also waistline-friendly! And they are going to share with YOU! Now if only Cadbury would come out with a zero calorie version of Mini Eggs, we would all win.<br /><br />Here's how to enter to win two mixed cases (6 each) of VitaminWater ZERO, a reusable tote bag, and a fun VitaminWater t-shirt!<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CtF84wjR-yk/USWLYohiDCI/AAAAAAAADaA/jdn5i53F1wU/s1600/vitaminwater+zero+prize+pack.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="295" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CtF84wjR-yk/USWLYohiDCI/AAAAAAAADaA/jdn5i53F1wU/s320/vitaminwater+zero+prize+pack.jpeg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ya.
