About Me

My Photo
I am a teacher, fitness/yoga instructor, runner, celebrity stalker, chocolate lover, embarrassing dancer, wine guzzler, can't-live-without-my-girlfriends kind of girl. I also have a collection of high heels that strongly outweighs my collection of runners. My goal is to find balance in my life through health and exercise- and when I say balance, I mean kicking ass in the gym and enjoying food, wine, family, friends, and basking in celebrity news. Let's eat clean and do some craaahaaayzy workouts together... followed by a glass of wine.

About Katy

Pin It My family seriously kicks ass. Growing up, my Mom and Dad always supported me in playing every sport imaginable (and they didn't disown me when I wore tearaways and oversized Toronto Blue Jays t-shirts to parties until I was 18). My parents are super active and showed me that fitness is a lifestyle. I have been so fortunate to take this love for activity and turn it into my job. It's been 10 years since I got my first fitness certification! Happy Anniversary to me. In addition to teaching high school Phys Ed, Science, Civics, and Dance, I currently teach at a few gyms in addition to private training. I teach Pump (a weight lifting class using barbells and dumbbells), SPA (Speed, Power, Agility- a High Intensity Interval Training class... killer!), Power Vinyasa Yoga (yoga poses strung together by flow), and Yoga for Athletes (core training, deep stretching, upper-body strength challenges).

I went to the most amazing university where I took kinesiology, played varsity lacrosse, and started my love affair with fitness. In the last ten years, I've been certified in the following areas:

Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the International Yoga Alliance
Health and Physical Education Specialist (Ontario College of Teachers)
Certified Zumba Instructor (Zumba Fitness)
Certified Kickbox Instructor (Fitness Kickboxing Canada)
Certified Bootcamp Instructor (Fitness Kickboxing Canada)
Certified Spinning Instructor (Reebok Cycle)
Certified Fitness Instructor Specialist (Can-Fit-Pro)
Certified Personal Trainer (Can-Fit-Pro)
I've also received professional development in Stability Ball, Medicine Ball, Lebert Equalizer Bar, and BOSU Ball Training, and incorporate things like Skipping, TRX and Kettlebells into my classes.

As a teacher I also know how important keeping on top of current trends can be! In the future I hope to add Pilates and TRX certs to my resume.

  4. I love all the designations you have :) I am just starting to fall in love /w fitness I kinda wish I had continued being active after high school. In my current life I would LOVE to be a fitness instructor but wouldn't even know how to go about it in my "old" age :P - I'm a 28 yr old mom!

  6. Thanks for listing these! I've been debating whether to go with Can-fit-pro or Ace for my group fitness certification. Wasn't sure if one was more respected over another in Canada.
