I am a HUGE believer in making due with what you have- exercise wise. I love a good TRX machine, a treadmill, a huge gym to do plyometric workouts, but let's face it: often we are left with a space the size of a couch in order to work out.
I get that this could have been a lot easier had I done my cardio workouts in the lake and utilized the area at the cottage, but I'm not a huge swimmer. I've had previous shoulder injuries from playing lacrosse and the resistance of the water just kills me.
One thing that is probably really annoying to a lot of people: I absolutely LOVE to skip! I would do it all day if I could- I'd have it in all of my workouts and never get bored of it.
The worst thing about skipping is trying to get a flattering photo while your entire body jiggles from head to toe.
|In my gorgeous Titika gear!
|Carter was so pumped to get this action shot. He actually shrieked. Uhm... in a manly way, of course.
|I then had to embarrass
Carter came up with an AMAZING workout that he uses for his fitness classes and presentations called 30 for 30. It's named after an ESPN documentary series... that I'm pretty sure none of you care about.
|I know what you're thinking, and yes, that IS my bicep in the picture.
30 for 30 is 30 body weight exercises, each done for 30 seconds, with a 30 second rest in between. You get a great workout in 30 minutes and only need a 6x6 space to complete it! Tabata Pro was amazing for this again, we didn't have to bother with watches or timers, just went to the music and rested when the buzzer went!
|My bro-in-law washing the floor. With his sweat.
|Spiderman Push Up.. No big deal.
|My nephew likes Carter way more than he likes me. When I took MY shirt off, he ran away. What gives?
|The whole fam getting in on the action! Even the little man... again :)
|I know what you're thinking. What a bunch of losers.
|Pivot Squat Jumps
|Notice my Dad taking a, ahem... longer break during these last few...?
|Hahahahah my bro-in-law really getting into the X jumps. Dad noticeably breaking, again.
|My nephew wanted to do this workout every day. He kicked our asses.
|No wonder he thought the push up was easy.
30 for 30 was the perfect cottage workout- even if you only have 10 minutes, pick 10 exercises and go all out for 30 seconds and a 30 second break. Your body will thank you!
Monday- 10 minute skipping interval + 30 for 30 + Makeshift SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding)
Tuesday- 20 minute skipping interval: 2 minutes skipping, 1 minute muscular endurance (plank, crunches, lunges, squats, oblique twists) followed by an interval workout of 30 seconds on and 10 seconds as FAST as I could. Thank God for the lake afterwards, I was a sweaty mess.
Wednesday- 6km hilly run + SUP Yoga (to be continued in my next post!)
Thursday- 30 for 30 with the FAM :) + SUP Yoga
Friday- 20 minute skipping interval (same as Tuesday)
It felt GREAT to be active while pigging out at night. I never have a problem with meals- they are always generally healthy. It's late night junk food snacking where I become compulsive Katy. Yes, I am one of those people who eats an entire row of cookies.
Alright. Two entire rows.
Frig. The whole freaking bag. I said it.
1. Are you a compulsive eater?
I sometimes eat until my stomach hurts. Then I eat more. But I am also a compulsive exerciser. I work my ass off... well, not literally. Because of the whole eating thing.
2. Tell me your favourite body weight activity that can be done in a small place!
My favourites are jumping squats, oblique twists, any plank, push ups, buddha crunches, mountain climbers, skipping, jumping jacks... alright, this is getting annoying, isn't it.
